I'm looking at buying my first car (got my licence a year ago) and decided on a VW Golf (MK6) TSI 1.4 (122bhp). I am also based in London, UK.

At what mileage stage do MK6 1.4 engine Golfs have issues and is a 100k mileage MK6 Golf even worth getting at the price of like £4k - here's one reference https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301022...

For anything like 90/80k miles we are looking at like £4800-£5200 at the moment for these cars and that's just out of my budget. I could stretch to £4k max (preferably £3k-3.5k would be better) but as stated, most cars are 100k miles at that price point - so, are 100k mileage Golf's reliable or are there anything that I need to look out for?

Welcome to Pistonheads.

Search for "Golf 6 1.4 TSI timing chain".

Fill your boots! If you want and like this car either budget for it if unknown or buy with chain already done.

Thanks for the welcome.

I did not know that these cars have a timing chain issue! Thanks for the heads up - gonna try to find some that have had that replaced.
