My Golf V5 is showing really poor performance - I was recently out accelerated on a motorway slip road by a Kia Picanto ! and I can only just get up to motorway crusing speed. The car feels like its not revving smoothly and is pulling back right through the range. Also fuel consumption is variable - recent trip of 200 miles no traffic on motorway got 23MPG !! on the way back, stuck in traffic crawled home exactly the same route got 27MPG.

I am guessing its the Air Mass Sensor , new one is on the way but thought it was worth asking if this could be something else ?

Cheers

had the same problem with my V6 4 Motion, changed the air mass sensor and it was fine, if you want to test it, disconect the plug, you will get a couple of warning lights on the dash but you will be able to see if the car runs fine, your lucky you didnt get the V6 in regards to fuel economy,it seems to be piss poor wether its running right or not lol

Thanks for the responses, looks like its deffo the AMS new one should arrive today. Regarding fuel economy the V5 normally gets 28-30MPG on a run or around 26 when thrashed to within an inch of its life.

i've got a v5 sport beetle and the car sometimes doesn't feel as quick as i think it should, i think the engine is quite sensetive to the throttle opening and being in the right gear , more so than other cars .
(last car's were cooper s and 911 ).

i'm trying to stick to using one type of fuel , esso super , don't know if swaping from optimax to esso was messing with things .

very tempted by the amd re-map and milltec exhaust , has anyone driven a v5 with these mods ?
