Considering a Golf Gti edition 30 - any advice
Discussion
Im searching through the ad's for one of these. Ideally 3 door, ideally red and hopefully around 60k miles or so but interested in any buying advice on these. Im presuming all the usual things around servicing etc are key points but is there anything particular to the car/model to look out for.
Ive been trying to get onto the FB marque specific groups but having no luck. Any advice would be appreciated

Your last threads were deleted for some reason so I hope I’m not wasting my time again writing this.
Good cars but can start to become money pits as they get older.
I sold my Red car earlier this year and the paint had started to suffer with lacquer peel which is a very common problem, Red is a terrible colour.
Rust also starts to get in at the front wings, especially at the bottom under the side skirts.
Watch out for tired suspension, steering rack knocking noises, non working a/c and make sure the maintenance is up to date such as timing belt, diverter valve, pcv valve and fuel pump cam follower.
Some like to drink a drop of oil too, mine was eating around a litre per 1000 miles but this is seen as normal.
I’d consider a standard Mk5 Gti too as the performance difference is the real world is negligible and standard cars are easier to find and more reasonably priced.
Most Ed30s have been modified and are the best standard ones are topping £10k which is just ridiculous.

Hi , merry Christmas and thanks for your reply. That’s really useful info, I didn’t know of the issues with red. I had read a bit about some of the mechanicals you mention.
I like the edition 30 wheels over the standard car, as you say the power isn’t really a factor, I’ve got a TCR so they will all no doubt feel down on power compared to that.
There isn’t a lot appealing for sale at the moment. I’m not in a rush but just want to make sure I’m equipped if one does come up. There is a black one for sale in Hexham which looks like it’s cared for and the seat bolster looks good, even a lot of the £10k + cars have badly crushed drivers seat bolsters although I’m sure there will be a fix for that.
Thanks again though
