Reversing out of a supermarket car space today, place was murder and the car to my right had parked way too close and two cars waiting to take my space.

Concentrating on not hitting the car to my right and aware of the two cars waiting, my car suddenly felt like it had hit something hard and stopped jolting me forward.

I shat myself, even got out to inspect the damage.

A pedestrian had walked behind me.

Can this be turned off?

It's the same on my other half's Golf 7. I was convinced I'd hit a wall, but no, there was some low hanging foilage.

I first thought it was annoying, but on reflection I'd rather be brought to an abrupt halt then hit something. (It does tell you on the dash what to do)

Seems like they did their job and stopped you hitting a pedestrian.

Well, yes, I don’t see why you’d want to turn it off? Imagine if you had and you’d hit the ped!

Reminds me of the insurance claim

"I didn't see the lamp post as it was obscured by pedestrians"

LOL! I was gingerly reversing out at less than 1mph, thanks for the help clap

The way the car reacted was waay OTT, the woman was past my rear in about two seconds, I knew exactly how far away the opposing parked car was.

VW call it “manoeuvre braking” and it seems to have done a great job if you haven’t noticed it until now!

The parking sensors work just fine.

Does anyone know if it can be deactivated or adjusted?

The stop was so sudden it shot you forward in your seat and you thought you had hit something hard.

All at less than 1mph rofl

How did it jolt you forward if you were reversing ?

You can turn it off on my Mk7.5 - on the infotainment car setup menu under parking sensors, it's maneuver braking.

However, saved me from having the front ripped off the car when exiting a drive and someone thought it was a good idea to drive through a tiny road with parked cars on it at 40mph... on their urgent way to the shop 50yrds up the road!

Our X3 does this. I do agree it feels very violent. Coupled with the load groan the brakes make as they slam on, it does make you think you actually hit something.

Still on balance I'd rather it did that and save me from an actual cock up.

It seems you only commented on here to be condescending or pick an argument.

I've not been here very long but there does appear to be some who inhabit this forum just to try and belittle people - not a good trait.

Thanks for the replies everyone else.

Not at all, but you clearly didn't see the pedestrian and are making a drama out of a stop from less than 1mph which caused you to "shat" yourself.

If you had been travelling at say 10mph or more and it braked suddenly and unexpectedly, as does appear to be the case with this technology, then I would feel some sympathy, but less than 1mph, that is hardly moving.

Now this would be a good reason to shat yourself and thank your lucky stars.

The experienced old lags here are used to dealing with all sorts of posts that just don’t make sense. Sometimes the OP disappears when they’re called out, sometimes they stay and argue for fifty pages.

The answer is to try to think about our posts before typing and then pressing Submit. We are all fallible, however. And believe me, I’ve fked up a few times!

To clarify it was the unexpected violence of the stop, that concerned me, I shat myself because I thought I'd hit something.

Anyway, moving on.

Or maybe not if your car has anything to do with it.
