Hello VAG experts

Anyone owned or have any knowledge of these?

Been looking at Japanese auction sites as for years they have often had the petrol 4wd cars that we never got here. And of course in RHD.

This looks to me to be a great option and preferrable to me to the diesels.

I could get a great condition one, shipped here and on the road for about 6-7K GBP. I think it would be a great daily

Thoughts?

Can't help there although you're right. Japan seem to have gotten all the petrol version of what we got in diesel. I have a Seat Leon X-Perience 2.0 TDI 184 DSG. It did suit my requirements, but now I rarely drive more than 5 miles so need a petrol. Doesn't seem to be an equivalent petrol car in the UK, be it Skoda, VW or Seat. They're all diesel.

Currently have a Lexus SC430 on its way to me from Japan. Tempted to source a VW from there too now tbh.

Thread resurrection, I’m quite tempted to try one of these, Japanese spec 2.0tsi Alltrack, grade 4.5 to replace our Touareg.

Other than a good rust treatment underneath and the clocks changing to miles, what else needs to be done on a JDM spec VW, do they have to be run on E5 only, does the radio / stereo have to be changed?

I’m thinking our local VAG independent can look after one as the parts are available on other VAG cars, but what about the coding, can a EU reader / software do everything on an import?

I've had one of these (new) back in 2015 - a 170 TDI version. (a little write up in my garage stuff under the car). Remember it being a nice place to sit/drive. More of a wafty barge than anything up on it's toes. No issue's with more during the 6k-7k I had it. Classic Passat inside, no bad thing. Would suspect that the screen would feel very outdated now, but being of this age, it will all work without the binging and bonging of modern VAG stuff..!

Have a chat with these guys..

www.winterstokemotorcompany.co.uk they do a lot of VW imports (they have a Passat Alltrack TSI in) so should be able to answer your questions.

I like the look of the Golf TSI Alltracks that they have in too, a suitable replacement for my Octavia Scout.

I have a 2012 2.0 Alltrack Tdi, great car, not sure why you'd want the petrol?

I lived and worked in Japan for a year, something to think about when importing a car from there. Smoking is much more popular in Japan than in the UK, people smoke in their cars and they have really pungent tobacco. You could end up with a car that has a pong you just can't get rid of!

Well I bought the Alltrack in the end. It’s 2012, 59,000 miles. The dash information is in English (GB) and the readout is in MPG/MPH and Celsius.

The dials themselves are still kmh but that doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
As it’s a Japanese import it’s about 370 quid for 12 months road tax and is the 155kw EA888 engine, black and black leather, seems to have a very high spec but of course no sunroof.
The entertainment/sat nav seems to be Jap specific, but I will see if I can get the Bluetooth working. Might be tempted to replace it with a UK unit.

Next step is to get it insured. Not sure whether to keep it or sell it, as I also imported an A4 Allroad, so decisions decisions…..

Don't suppose you've still got the Passat and looking to move it on?
