In March last year I purchased a 2020 / 70 plate MK8 Gti . Since ownership that car has thrown up a lot of issues of which some have been resolved by VW and others keep on being an intermittent royal pain the arse.

To date I have had:

Lighting issue - Intermittent
Gear Box Lever - Intermittent
Hand Brake switch fault - replaced and resolved
Fault on the SOS switch - replaced and resolved

From time to time, I get the odd message on the dash that parking sensor / traffic sensor is unavailable, and once, not long ago I had the lane impact assist lights on the wing mirrors both constantly on. Again, this was intermittent.

On the last visit to VW, they informed me that they had to replace the steering wheel!!!

The touch screen and micro switches are another story, so bloody slow in selection of pretty much anything, but I can live with that. The car in general is a great little sports hatch, just such a shame that the rest lets it down.

Thanks for any / all comments in advance

Peter

There are lots of issues with the Infotainment in mk8 Golf I have Cupra Leon mk 4 same Infotainment and same issues.
, be glad you don't have the Cupra but the Golf on the Cupra Leon mk4 300 paint. Litterally falls and peels off the rear bumper.

Sad to hear - I believe on the early Mk8 cars the issues can't be properly fixed due to new replacement hardware not being compatible with the earlier cars.

On the later cars they seem to have fixed many of the issues, in the intermediate ones it required new computers/etc to be fitted but they won't fit the early models.

It was why I went with a Mk7.5 instead of a Mk8 I could have had for nearly the same money.

VW are going back to steering wheels with actual buttons in future cars now, they have finally realised that the touch pads aren't very good sadly.

Sad but true, it does feel like VW jumped the gun with all of the new tech compared to the 7.5. Maybe too much too soon as I'm sure if they had spent enough money & time pre lock down they might have actually come up with a far better car. For looks and comfort ( I have the rare leather option so I'm told) I can't fault the car.

Well documented and reported issue’s unfortunately

On the whole, MK8’s are only good if you get a 2022 onwards build with the upgraded hardware for infotainment
