I have just bought this beast, a 75th birthday present to myself, and have become embroiled in the row over Audi dropping Google Maps, which are "present but not supported".

There are loads of Apple CP retrofit offering in the UK, and no doubt of various qualities. Has anyone fitted, themselves, the Carsgadgets kit? It is a US offering, but the Youtube directions are clear, not too much Yo Now Bro! and I do have 8 and 10mm sockets (quite a few) and some sticky tape. Also it is claimed to improve sound quality over the fitted Bose system (which is not a good as the 2004 Bose version, nor the 2010 B+O).

New to this Forum, though an A/S8 owner, A8 4.0TDI (The Clarkson one), S8 V10 and now the S8 V8, for twenty years.

I thought the Intergrated Automotive kit I installed in my wife’s old A Class was excellent.

They have several Audi options.

On some models there is a software update to allow satellite maps to work with the new provider.

You'd have to check with an Audi dealer.
I'd normally be able to check but won't have access to the systems for the next couple of weeks unfortunately.

The Audi S8 D4 is late 2016 (66 reg); done 33K. Cracking bit of kit, Oolong Grey and some Maxon? body stuff. Makes it looks like a drug dealer car, but fine as I am in the drug industry. Had new Audi-style RS7? wheels and 255/40/20 tyres, fitted but I changed them for the original Black Edition genuine Audi wheels and new Pirelli 265/40/20 P Zero, Sorry, I am getting into the Fun of This Forum. Old wheels are for sale? Can I do this?

I fitted this; https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/audi-a4-carplay-bo... from Unique Auto Developments to my S4, they also have a kit for A8 etc.

It has been great, works perfectly and integrates well into the car switchgear - almost as seamless as my wife's Q2 which has OEM carplay, it also has a touch screen which makes certain functions easier and wireless connection to your phone unlike OEM (though wireless kills the phone battery in short order so I don't use it) I also fitted the optional reversing camera which integrates perfectly.

Fairly easy to fit, hardest part was removing dash trim without damage and running the cable from the camera at the rear but only took me few hours.

At around £500 maybe not the cheapest but I would rate it highly.

Thank you. I had a good look at this and it seems spot on. My car has an AUX female connector under the arm rest which I use via a lightening cable, 'tother end, to get wired connection to my iphone for Spotify. So I guess this charges up the iphone and preserves the battery. I will give it a go! I think I will need the proper trim removal tools but and radio keys but these are on ebay.

Thanks all for the advice.

I have a S6 2018 model, so similar vintage. It has the tech pack which means 2x usb a connectors in the armrest. I was able to get wired carplay activated via the official audi process. Was about £300. Needs to go to a dealer to be coded

I think if you don’t have the usb sockets in the arm rest then you are on after market alternatives which may be more difficult to implement

Hi, Just an update on getting Apple Carplay into my Audi S8 D4

I bought an ICORE kit from Unique Auto Developments, specific for the S8 D4. Despite some instructions, it is not fully plug-play and I bottled the
challenge of clipping 12v+ somewhere into the back of the MMI. I got Road Radio Crawley to fit it, took them over 3 hours.

I understand, now, that the ICORE and some EU kit (BE/DE, I forget) kit is the best from the many options available.. I works very well on Google Maps, Wave and Spotify and I think the sound is improved over the BOSE alone sound. Recommended. Total cost £600.

cheers. Adrian
