There used to be a website where you could get the VIN details from the registration plate, and thus could be used to check the spec any given came out the factory in, however the site has changed and no longer shows the VIN. Is it possible to find out any other way? Am looking at a couple of cars to buy, and one has quite a poor description so I'd like to check the options list.

VIN from VRM: HPI (carry out a vehicle ID check)

Spec from VIN: Erwin

Or if it's an Audi you can ask me nicely and I'll download the build sheet for you (I can pull the VIN from reg).

That's a very kind offer, thank you. If you could have a look at KW16 NKE (3.0 V6 Tdi) please that would be much appreciated. It might be quite a short options list!

Electric front seats (NOT heated), 19" 10V, Keyless, Nav+, B&O, Phone box.

Audi services at 19 & 38 (the 38 is a major with gearbox oil), Then independent at 43 & 54. For some reason at 54 they've done the box oil again.

Thank you kindly, as expected, quite a short options list. Not sure why the gearbox oil has been done again, but it can't hurt, maybe just a diligent owner.

Thank you for that, much appreciated. Without knowing anything else that's on the on the 5 pages, is there anything worth mentioning that might be worthwhile? You can message me the VIN if you want and i can run it through one of those VIN pages myself.

Does what you've used pick up the Service History too?

Apologies for all the requests guys

The "VIN decoder" pages don't work with VAG beyond very basic data as the manufacturer doesn't release that info for free.

It's all on a bit of software called erwin, and each brand within the group has a portal. Service history is stored in there too.

ah ok, makes sense, thanks. I'm going to see it this afternoon so aside from what i cant identify visually (which should be most things to be fair) i can pull the option codes from the handbook or boot sticker and use that.

Thanks again.

Might give you some info but you need to put the VIN into erwin if you want a detailed specification.
