Golf MK6 Rack / Sub Frame Knock
Discussion
I’m assuming it’s the same as a Mk5, I can’t tell you what goes wrong internally but I had to replace mine after chasing a knocking noise for a while.
Recon rack was around £300 and I did it myself, it involves dropping the subframe so although it’s not hard you need to buy new stretch bolts etc when putting it back together.
Also Vcds was needed to code the new one.
Have you checked the subframe bolts are tight as these do loosen off, you can buy a spacer kit and new bolts that helps with this.

Thanks for the replies.
Will try that - it also makes the same noise when going over sort of small bumps - like a cobble street ect...
And when go on and off the throttle - so engine is powering wheels, then lift off and car is pushing the engine.
That sort of slack area, where the play I guess in the engine mounts and drivetrain is taken up, when go from coast to power.
Now you mentioned, I remember did have same issue on my MK5... was sub frame bolts, but would come loose again shortly
