Does anyone know what it costs to get the Android Auto turned on for a 2017 Golf R Estate? Just bought one, absolutely love it. Thought Android Auto was standard but ir says I need to visit the dealer. The web shop shows no indication of cost either.

And, perhaps more importantly, is it worth it!? I've read some stuff about it being crashy in this age of Golf. Mine is pre-facelift.

I have the same problem with my Arteon. Someone I know that works in the main dealer and I'm sure they quoted me a few hundred pounds when I asked which put me off.

Why it gets locked after a few years I don't know but it's really frustrating.

I think there is many companies who can reflash it onto the car for less but I'm not keen on aftermarket.

Don't go for the first qoute you've got, a local company wanted £400 to supply and fit cruise control in my 13 plate caddy, took an hour trip to bellmans in sheffield and had it done for £120 and had it back in less than an hour.im sure the first guy said it take around half a day too.

Maybe find them on fb?might be a 10 minute job for them.

Dealer price is £250. The price should include a compatible USB socket if needed, however normally its the early MIB2 cars (65 plateish) that need this.

Other companies can do it for much cheaper but if it then ever gets a software update at the dealer it will wipe out the activation as its not been done correctly via VWs servers.

I've a 2016 MY Golf with factory Discover Pro and App Connect.

Android Auto is a bit flakey on it but I've only (tried to) use it a few times, Carplay works well.

2017 won't need USB changing, just needs Carplay/AA "unlocking", which if you Google there are many local places that will do it for £100, or I got quoted £330 at a VW dealer. I decided not to bother in the end as built in nav works well enough if kept up to date. You'll need to Google for VAG Coding type places.
