Mrs Legs 7.5 R is coming up to 3 years old.
MOT is being done next week and obviously the warranty will be up.
At the last service in June it needed a few things doing (time related) and had a split rubber boot somewhere on the car (I can’t remember exactly) but that wasn’t covered under the factory warranty.

The suspension squeaks going over speed bumps and the dealer greased it all up and cured it for a while, but it’s back again - possibly an ongoing issue?

It’s now done 42.5k miles, drives nicely, is incredibly economical, cheap rfl and neither of us like the Mk8 enough to change to one (plus they seem quite pricey), and would rather keep this going - so, worth the £350 per year or do I just use a decent independent garage?

Cheers.

Check the t&c as a few years ago they did not cover anything electrical...

I purchased the Skoda plan which was an extra 550 quid for 2 years at purchase then I've also purchased years 6 and 7 which has cost me about 350 quid each.

I'm around £1500 up so far.

Can you get "All In" on Golf R? If you're thinking of keeping it dealer serviced anyway then it's a no brainer.

Most years they've discounted it for Black Friday but I think it's been reduced in price recently anyway.

Don't understand earlier comments about electrical stuff not being covered - I believe they are, but wiring is excluded. Wear and tear stuff on suspension is always contentious - a lot depends on the dealer, wife's Tiguan just had both rear shocks replaced as the dealer said they were leaking, apparently if they're misting they won't cover them. Under the original 3yr warranty they replaced the console bushes as they were starting to split - on the warranty history they'd put "knocking".

No brainer with all in; warranty, breakdown cover, servicing and MOT.

Currently can’t have the All In - just tried to do it on line but it rejected the car.
I’m assuming as it’s not quite 3 years old (18th Oct), as everything else seems applicable.

Certainly looks decent value though.

We had similar with Tiguan as it had an extended warranty running, and dealer told us you can't take All In if the car has a warranty running and the timing got a messy as the extended warranty ran out the day before the car's 6th birthday which is also the start limit for All In. Dealer said they'd sort it and they did. They did everything on the last day - IIRC the All In eligibility check has to be done less that a week before the package it taken out. Seems a bit bonkers for a car coming up to 3yrs old though.

I would suggest definitely trying to get the dealer to do the eligibility check before the car is three in case it throws up any issues - Tiguan was fine, but daughter's SEAT Ateca threw up all sorts of fault codes despite that they're supposed to check for fault codes at service. SEAT dealer is completely incompetent though.

I think the MOT is booked two days before the original warranty runs out, so hopefully any issues will be picked up.
Will ask them about the All In at the time.
Cheers.

If you're hoping they'll do the check on the day they may not - the car has to be hooked up to VW's big computer so I don't think it's a particularly trivial task. I'd certainly be asking the dealer in advance.

amongst other things, Ateca threw up fault codes with door locks and speakers which we werent aware of.

I’ve run a fair few 3-12 year old VAG products in and out of warranty over the years. I think some of it depends on luck and some in what your view of main dealer servicing is.

I find that running a car out of warranty and independently serviced is generally best value. Big dealer groups tend to upsell maintenance and repairs at quite chunky prices, and warranties can be a bit of a let down depending on what the problem is. However, if you have a youngish car, are determined to service at a main dealer anyway, and want a warranty - then All-in is better than buying all the service & warranty products separately. The business model is predicated on you paying for non-warranty maintenance over and above though… Haldex, air con etc.

By the sound of things, the lower arm bushes on the OP’s car are worn. This is extremely common on VAG cars - the TPI says to grease them, but I’d go straight to replacement. Not expensive, but a bit ambiguous under warranty and likely to involve two visits to a dealer (and hence an example of why All-in isn’t a panacea).

I’m in the last 3 months of my extended, 5 year, warranty.

My van is heavily modified, but I’ve had a crankshaft end seal replaced under warranty that was circa £750.

And it’s going in on Tuesday for a new instrument cluster, again under warranty, I haven’t seen the cost yet.

I get my bus serviced at a local VAG indie, not the main dealer.

Well worth the £400 I paid up front when new, but VW want around £1000 for another 12 month extension.

Sadly I don’t qualify for the all-in, which is a no-brainer.

Mrs ubbs has the all in one warranty on her golf gtd estate, she’s never needed to claim on it but it makes sense 2 services, mot’s breakdown cover and warranty.

Spoken to the dealer - going to get the eligibility check done with the mot.

Only issue is we may find ourselves moving the car on in 6-12 months and would have to pay up the remaining payments, which would possibly help in a private sale, but probably make no difference if it were traded in.
