I had my front discs and pads changed in March of this year. As the car had failed the MOT on them I just allowed the garage testing the car to replace them. I was busy and didn't have a lot of time to discuss what they were fitting - in heinsight a bit of a mistake!

6 months and around 8K miles later and I've noticed when they get hot there is a judder through the wheel suggesting warped discs. Reluctantly I'm going to have them replaced but this time I want more premium discs. I am more than likely going to go Brembo but wondered if anyone has a better experience with a different brand and what setup people are using on their cars. It's a 2016 S5 Sportback that is driven quite spiritedly from time to time including trips to Germany on occasion. In fact my last trip to Germany is what highlighted (and quite possible caused) the warping. Braking from 150 down to 80 on the autobahns obviously put a lot more heat through them than they would experience over here in the UK but I want the brakes to be as good as they can be and last this time.

My S4 came with what looked like eBay style drilled discs that were actually very good, but as I didn't know the brand and was worried about cracking I swapped them out for Brembo solid discs and Brembo pads. Brake performance is good, but doesn't have quite the same bite as the drilled ones and after some spirited driving (and also probably due to the brake torque vectoring) there was definitely brake fade. Brake fluid was about 4 years old though so I've changed that and will see when I get a change to test. No vibrations though.

In hindsight, I wish I had got drilled again, or maybe slotted instead as I fear the crack. I feel like I cheaped out a little, which is stupid when it comes to brakes. Some nice stuff on awesomegti.

I would look at why they have warped as well; this may be an installation issue rather than simply poor materials.

If there's an underlying issue even putting the best discs in the world on the car will only see the problem come back in 6 months.

Have the wheels been refurbished in the recent past or could one be warped/buckled? Were the mating faces on the wheels and hubs 100% clean and flat before the discs installed? Had the discs been dropped/damaged in transit? Was the hub hammered on to release a stuck disc?

I deal with this a lot with fast Audis and more often than not something has been missed and caused the disc runout.

My S4 got to over 40k from the originals so went genuine when replaced.

Mate got 25% off from a dealer so wasn’t much more than decent brands still on the original rears discs.

This is a good point to be fair. I actually put brand new wheels on it after the discs were fitted so no risk of damage to them. I'm reluctant to go back to the same garage as they are really just glorified MOT testers. I have a local specialist I'll take it too for a bit of a diagnosis. It's odd how under normal driving there isn't any noticeable issue, but as the discs get warmer the juddering worsens massively!
