Audi A5 Timing belt & clutch cost
Discussion
Hi all
I'm after some advice. A colleague has suffered a recent bereavement and has an A5 cabriolet. It's an auto, petrol and has done 130k miles. It's a 2016 plate and a garage has told them that it'll cost £3500 to repair and that the car is only worth £4600. I think that they are trying to rip someone off in a vulnerable state.
Can anyone give a rough estimate on costs for a clutch and timing belt and also a rough idea on value. I've checked Autotrader but struggling to find a similar car to compare.
Any help is gratefully received.

You are right having done some more research it appears that they are chain driven. In that case does anyone have a rough cost for chain replacement if this is genuinely a problem?
Anywhere between £800 and £1300 depending on parts and quality of parts, we would use genuine. You would only need to replace the chain if it rattles or their are fault codes, you might be able to get away with just the tensioner.

Thanks Steve. I don't believe it is making a rattle although I haven't heard it running. But they tell me it doesn't. If it is just the tensioner how much would that be?
Yes just one garages opinion and completely agree about a second opinion. They just aren't really in the right place to be messing around with all this at the minute. Apparently it runs and drives fine so I'm thinking it's someone trying to take advantage of their situation. There is an emotional connection to the car involved as well for the owner.
