Seriously looking into buying a pre-FL SQ7 (2017-2019). Would appreciate some advice from owners as to which options are must haves and what common issues to look out for.

Thanks to all in advance

Had mine from 2018 for 3.5 years from new, i really enjoyed it. I done 35k miles or so and i replaced tyres all round twice, one set of break pads and that was it.

It did however have an issue with the electric e-brake sticking and the squeaking was horrendous at low speeds, it went back to Audi who replaced all 4 discs and pad under warranty at around 7k miles.

Extras i went for were -

- Upgraded sound system
- Whatever package gave soft close doors etc
- 22inch wheels

Went against the grain and never got the black pack as I though the brushed metal finish looks nice with the metallic white and 2 tone grey / silver alloys.

It's a fantastic machine and a great choice. The performance is very good and you can see nearly 700 miles on a tank. With a roof box ours took 4 adults and 2 kids plus luggage this summer easily.

Ours doesn't have the four wheel steering but I've never felt its handling was anything other than extraordinary for what it is. I can't recall whether the reversing camera is an option but you definitely want it! Other than that it's all familiar Audi quality, but it's the engine that is the stand out feature. There's plenty of power everywhere, the flappy paddles are redundant, just flick it into sport and enjoy!

It’s worth remembering that all the reviews of the SQ7 were for models that had the Dynamic pack. This gave you the adaptable suspension, 4 wheel steering and e-diff. Without this it’s a little bit less of a car, particularly when hustling it along. The 4WS is most noticeable when manoeuvring, it allows for really tight turns.

However the Dynamic pack added about 10% to the list price (£7k) so most owners & leasing companies specified gadgets and trinkets instead.

It depends what you want from a car, but having the drivetrain match the engine makes it a better package if you’re sensitive to such things. If it’s going to be used to shuttle family on small journeys then not really worth it; but in that case why go for the “S” variant?

I went for the Dynamic pack, pano roof, heated seats, tow bar and exclusive paint option (therein lies a story…). In hindsight I sort of wished I went for memory seats and having got it on another car, the camera option that gives you the 360 degree birds eye view. As I recall these were only available as part of other packs with loads of stuff I didn’t want but were very expensive.

The standard 23” rims are fine, anything bigger just makes the ride more fidgety. It doesn’t need running boards as the floor plan is much lower than say a Range Rover, so it’s much less of a climb up.

I got one of the first, approaching 6 years old now, still very fresh and no intention of changing it for a long time. It’s been a brilliant workhorse. My long term average is 36mpg, which I think is remarkable for the size & performance. It really is very likely to be the best car Diesel engine ever made.

Thank you all for the replies! Are there any recurring reliability issues that one should be aware of, especially after the 60 tsd mile mark?

Cheers
