Just wondering if anyone can help with this or give me some pointers. The car is my Dad's so I don't know the car (and haven't ever owned a VW). The symptoms he is describing is this: When coasting to a stop the revs drop out and the engine cuts out but it doesn't do it if he comes to a stop by way of braking. It's intermittent and does it when the engine is cold or hot. Now he's telling me that it might be better when he's on E10 rather than E5 but he;'s not 100% sure so that may be red herring and just co-incidence given the intermittent nature.

Just wondered then if anyone else has had this or know the most likely cause.

Thanks.

Best to ask around on a specific VW forum for something like that or get the engine diagnosed by a specialist.

Odds on there is a fuel mixture issue air volume issue causing a fuel mixture problem, especially if the swap to E10 makes a difference.
