Hi all

My VW Golf 19' plate has started overheating. I've just it back from the garage earlier where I said it might be the thermostat on the phone call, they've confirmed it was the thermostat and they had the car a week while waiting for the part. This was repaired under warranty and having just looked around the engine, it's clear work has been done and the thermostat has been replaced so no qualms there..

It was fine driving from the garage and I tested the car under conditions where it did overheat before and was fine until I took it out again earlier.

It overheats having to go up inclines.
It's fine cruising around until I put my foot down and accelerate hard-ish (it was fine earlier when I did this).

There are no coolant leaks as the coolant stays topped up.

There are zero indications the vehicle might might/will overheat - in terms of say engine power or warnings. Since I've driven it before while trying to diagnose, I know when it will start to overheat based on the road ahead etc. There aren't any warning lights until the temp reaches a set value and then a message comes up saying pull over etc but I dont allow it to reach that (can't recall what the threshold temp was/is - but it's > 100 degrees C). Again, no warning lights. The car does return to normal temp after a few minutes of careful driving. There isn't any smoke or noise.

I like to fault find so just trying to work out what it might be.

I've booked it in to a different garage under warranty again. I dont know if RAC will cover it again as they didn't like having to pay for this but either way I dont mind paying, just need a car for work frown

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar.

Thanks!

Sounds a lot like a water pump failure.

This all day long, especially if the car is question is a diesel engined one. Really common on those engines.
