golf gti mk6 burning oil
Discussion
I've a 2010 golf gti mk6 which has always burned though oil and I've put up with it. It goes through 0.5 litres per 500 miles or so of 5w40. I've addressed common issues such as the PCV valve and the car does have a leak from the timing cover but it's minor and more of a wetting.
I'm thinking to try BG109 flush then running a thicker viscosity say 10w40. Would this do any damage to the engine?

Gummed up piston rings. Very common on nannied EA888 engines. I keep telling people.....never buy 1 lady owner GTIs. Always get the high mileage motorway munchers, but anyway.....
You're wasting time with retail chemicals.
You need commercial stuff like Carbon X K1 & K2 or BG's own professional system.
Providing the rings and ring lands aren't too clogged up, the above can free them off and restore proper oil control and lost compression, but more often than not......you need new piston rings.

Interesting, new rings will be an immensely costly job so willing to try some of the chemical agents. Do you have a link to the BG professional range? You're wasting time with retail chemicals.
