Evening all

I’m about to buy a Q5 as the new family wagon, it’s a 67 plate on 43k miles.

I’ve had a look online but can’t find anything certain around S Tronic and Haldex servicing. Assuming the S Tronic is 40k miles, but never had a car with Haldex before.

Does anyone know what the schedules are for those items?

Thanks

Alex

Haldex is only used on the smaller VAG range - MQB chassis with transverse engines. Q5 uses a Torsen diff which mechanical.

DSG as you stated is every 40k after the first service. (First service at 35k)

Thanks for this, I had a further look online to understand and it seems only the 3.0 plus engines came with the torsen diff.

From 2017 the Q5 also came with quattro ultra, although I'm none the wiser as to what maintenance needs that has.

Another thought I did have is that given the car is coming up to 5 years old, I expect it will need a cambelt doing soon.

Send me your chassis number and I will send you a screen grab of the vehicle-specific service schedule.

S Tronic service is every 40k, same for the first one.

The 5 year thing is made up rubbish and really excessive, it's 130k miles. A lot of cars will never get to 130k so doing it at 8/10 years you could consider preventative maintenance if you like.

Thanks DrG, combined with your email this is really helpful.

Dealer I'm buying from has agreed to discount the car to cover S Tronic, fuel filter service and cambelt. So I guess I can take a view as to whether to go ahead with the latter, or delay until later.

The car arrived yesterday, after a chunky discount being agreed to account for the work needed.

It looks in great shape though, very pleased with it.

DrG - I plan to get Unit20 in Neston to do the s tronic and fuel filter service. Undecided on the cambelt, might have a chat with them about it - does seem excessive to get it done on a 44k miles car.

Enjoying the car after almost a week with it, far better suited to family duties than the S4.

One minor annoyance, the arm rests on all 4 doors are clad in the same plastic used for the dash and upper door trim.

Was there ever an upgrade available for the arm rests on the Q5? Tried to find some options online, does seem that some come in leather, but hard to find the part and therefore replacement options.

Other option could be to get them all trimmed in OEM leather.

Sorry, missed your earlier replies.

Martin (Unit 20) is a good guy, and very knowledgeable. In that part of the world he would be my first choice.

Doing the belt at that age/mileage is excessive.

Yes, leather door armrests were available but a rare option:

You'd need to steal some from an SQ5 or have them trimmed.

Thanks Alex, appreciate the reply.

Really strange that the arm rests aren't leather, the SQ5 ones seem to be very rare.

Will do some research on local trimmers.

Its sister car the Macan has lots more leathery bits inside (and even more as options), but they're £10k+ more expensive...

Had it done on wife's Tiguan at 30K - really annoying cost but I took the view that we'd be keeping the car for some years and I;d have to get it done eventually so it's only worth delaying if you can skip a change. Also it depends on your mindset - I had a Vauxhall that broke its cambelt three times, so I'd be thinking about it every time the car was out.

Didn't realise there were two VAG indies so close to each other in Neston - do you know anything of the other one, WCC?

Sorry, I’ve been out of the loop a few days.

Not familiar with WCC I’m afraid.

On the cam belt front, I see what you are saying. Expect I’ll get it done.
