Hi,
I hoping someone here may be able to give me some advice with seemingly odd problem. The car is a 2004 TT 3.2. A few months ago I went to start the car, got the normal key sign on the dash but just got a single click when I tried to start it. Second attempt was fine, it started. Same happened a few days later. Over a few months it got worse, it sent to a single click twice before starting ok, then three etc until eventually no attempts would start it. So I had it trailered to a local (well rated) VAG independent thinking a solenoid problem. They came back and diagnosed a bad key (which I knew, one does play up) but I'm sure I had the problem with other two keys also. The garage found all else was Ok and the other two keys worked fine. So it came back home and sure enough it stopped doing it. So I'm happy. This is a few weeks ago. Yesterday I go to start it and I get a single click, it then starts second time. This morning same thing - single click first time then starts second time. Tonight it took until the 4th attempt to start. So seemingly it's going to repeat the the same thing as before as eventually won't start on any attempt. I've got full battery and no other symptoms.

Anyone else experienced this or have any advice as to what the problem might be ?

Thanks.

I did have something similar on my previous R32, it was a long time ago so I can't remember all details but think I was accompanied by a beeping sound from the dash. The rac were stumped so had to take it to a Vag specialist. After checking wiring diagrams it urned out to be a blown relay fuse.

Has the garage checked the starter motor? Any other warning lamps, has it been plugged in to vagcom software or similar to check for fault codes?

Thanks. They said they were returning no issues. I originally thought the wire between the starter and solenoid may have just corroded, I know that's quite common but certainly became convinced it was a starter or starter circuit. Thing is, it's erratic so maybe the problem didn't replicate at the garage and coincidently I'd given them the dodgy key so they drew that conclusion. I'll check the circuit first. Replacing the starter looks a right faff for access.
