Audi recall in US not in UK
Discussion
Background:
I have an A3, I have spent and wasted so much time and money dealing with the airbag light. It comes on completely unprovoked, I’ve had it checked over by so many mechanics (I usually won’t stray from my mechanic but he had to keep ‘fixing’ it for free and I didn’t want him to keep losing out on money). Sometimes the fix lasts an hour, sometimes a few days and if I’m lucky it’ll last weeks, it will always come back though.
The previous owner changed their number so can’t check if he also had this issue.
This isn’t actually an airbag issue the code that comes up is:
B10381B - Igniter 1 for pedestrian protection - resistance too high.
I’ve had the car for A year and a half, for the last 6 months I’ve not actually been driving though (I added my friend to insurance so that it could be driven solely for upkeep ie battery health, avoiding oil issues etc) due to ill health, I wasn’t instructed to stop by the DVLA I just felt I was putting others in danger. Before I fell ill I got it fixed, I’ve just been discharged after 3 months in hospital and shocker the lights back on. I was about to make an appointment directly with Audi but stumbled upon a US based recall and thought this forum would have the best knowledge for things like this.
Long story short:
A recall was made for over 100k A3 models the same as mine in the US, I’m in the UK and this issue hasn’t been recalled here. From browsing the recall seems to be my exact issue. I’ve never dealt with a recall I didn’t even know they were country specific.
How would I go about getting Audi to basically honour the recall and fix it? Is it the same kind of ‘haggling’ process as getting a new broadband, if they say no do I push or do I just take no as the answer? I don’t want to make a fool of myself so if anyone has had a similar situation or has advice I would be extremely grateful! smile
