My sons Golf went in for a service yesterday and they couldn’t do the front pads as the locking wheel nut has been lost.
What’s the easiest solution, will Vw supply one with the V5.

a few options,

take a good close up pic of the locking bolt, browse ebay for the matching key.

phone round a few local VW group indies, they'll probably have a selection of the keys. When doing the pads they remove the lockers and install normal bolts.

Ask neighbours, friends, work colleagues with a mk7 Golf to borrow their key. It might be the one you need. Use, remove the lockers, fit normal bolts.

The dealer might remove them as long as you use them to buy and fit a new set of locking bolts with key.

The above is based on it being a standard VW locking bolt. If its 3rd party or chewed up then that's another problem.

I can’t see any on eBay, and I think there is an outer collar that spins so I doubt the machine mart ones will work.

Try these guys.

Once you have removed the offending wheel bolt on each wheel just bin them and replace with a normal wheel bolt. More hassle than they're worth.

Some years ago I had an Audi A3 and whilst in at the dealer, they lost the key.

I noticed within a few days and they sent someone over with a box of assorted keys plus a brand new set of locking wheel nuts in case none of the keys fit.

Luckily they found a key that fit but they also left me the new, boxed set of 4 nuts with key. The car's now gone but I've still got the locking nut set lying around.

AFAIK, A3 is the same fitment as Golf? the part number for the kit is 1KO698137A as per; https://www.amazon.de/Original-Volkswagen-Ersatzte...

PM me if you're interested.

If its just the standard locking wheel nut then there are pretty easy to remove, We would usually charge £15 to £20 per wheel depending on how difficult they are.

As for removing the old one, Halfords sell a set of 2 wheel nut removal tools.

We had a Ford Galaxy and I changed the rear brake pads, no problem except I managed to lose the key for the locking wheel nut.

I wasn't worried about anyone stealing the wheels on a 10 yr old Galaxy so I bought 4 normal bolts from the local Ford garage and the 2-piece removal kit from Halfords - piece of cake to remove, the socket simply screws on (backwards) to the wheel nut and you can remove it, probably wouldn't want to use the nut again afterwards because it chews it up a bit but did the job nicely.

Then, a couple of years back, (long after the Galaxy was gone), I found the key buried in the gravel drive whilst cleaning out a drain - confirming that I had left it on the wheel nut whilst taking it for a test drive... whistle

Doesn't sound like a VW one...

Looks OEM and pretty much the same as the one I've got here (slightly different shaped lob-sided 'star') but nothing rotates on them, I think the join is just how they're assembled.
