Went to have a look at a Audi TT MK1 1.8T 225 BAM today and was wondering what the following issue may be.

On the test drive, in first gear, when you accelerated it progressed ok up until about 4k/ 4.5k revs and then kind of felt as if the clutch disengaged at the flick of a switch and the revs shot right up to the redline and then felt very slow to return back down the rev range.

I don't think it is the clutch that as the issue as it had the following done about 10,000 miles ago...

LUK Clutch, Pressure Plate & Slave Cylinder
LUK Flywheel
SACHS Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch Line O-Rings (1K0798741)
PAGID brake & clutch fluid flush

Thanks in advance.

Matt.

Strange but does sound like clutch slip.
Are you sure it's had that work done or is it just the owners word?

Hi,

I have also come to the conclusion that it is clutch slip as there is no other explanation for it.

Clutch may be glazed or contaminated.

Very unusual in first for the clutch to do that - it’d barely drive in higher gears if it’s that bad.

I’d wonder if it’s an issue with the transfer box/Haldex.

They have a DMF, and if that’s totally gone it’ll rattle.
