Hi all

Likely to be a long shot, I know, but …

The daughter has a 2019 VW T-Roc and has somehow managed to snap the bonnet stay pivot point off - meaning that the bonnet stay is now completely detached from the car and completely useless.

It does seem a rather flimsy thing. Has anyone else experienced this?

She says that she has been quoted £750 for a new one (fitted) because it is a part of the radiator surround/front grille and it all needs to come out to fit a new one.

I can’t find an exploded parts view of the front end to see exactly what is needed.

Anyone have any idea?

Cheers

Andy

The usual solution is a broom stick cut to correct length.

Sorry pm didn’t come through so I just improvised

I need to have another look, I suspect it’s the radiator carrier that it clips into

Either repair it in situ or buy some gas struts like these:

Brilliant, thanks for your help guys.

I have tried to repair it, but it just snaps off again as soon as any pressure is placed on it.

Yeah I did think about gas struts, but it is a work lease car and I’m not sure whether it would cause a problem when it goes back in November if it has been “modified”

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Andy

I'd be making an L shape bracket for that, i wouldn't want to replace the entire panel.

I’d just fit a gas strut kit , about £35 on eBay

I would leave it as is and when she hands it back if they say anything then she just needs to look lost as to what they are on about.
Servicing garage could have done it during service time and your daughter never lifts the bonnet as she has no need to.
