I fancy one of these as a run around and have spotted a clean unmodified 2007 car with 107k on the clock.
It’s has the 1.9 Tdi pd engine.
Any things to look out for on them?
I’m aware the clutch may be on its last legs at this mileage and to make sure the history is ok.
It’s priced at £3000 Ono which I don’t think is too bad in the current climate.

Knocks and clunks from the front suspension - the wishbone bushes aka console bushes are a known weak spot.

Rear door leaks,

DMF chatter indicating its on it way out

Seized rear calipers.

Had one ran it from 80k to 160k, I did an alternator, brakes and cambelt, really liked it, the white seats are a complete pain though! It would put me off another.

Great little cars, that PD Tdi engine was brilliant.

Sold over 100 PD engined VAG motors, and only ever had to do mass airflow meters, and aircon condensers (Passats)

All were mid to high mileage ones.

A friend came across one with a noisy 6th gear, but that was the only one I'd heard of.

As above, white VRS seats are a nightmare to keep clean. Leather VRS are rare, but worth paying more for.

I ran one for 18 months, 53mpg average.

Absolutely the most fun VAG car I've ever owned for the money. Had a 60k '06 plate, sold it to a friend, now on 180k, no real issues, still on the original clutch (does it have a DMF?).

Only issues:
Water leaks from the doors, take the door panel off and seal the big metal plate with Tiger Seal.
Suspension bushes, but nothing out of the ordinary
Driver's seat runners work loose if you're really lardy, had to do mine when I bought it, but second hand is fine and they are the same for all models.
Those white seats can be a pain to clean, I used bleach to get the worst stains out, and no it doesn't bleach the black bits even when applied neat.

I'd have another one tomorrow if I could find a nice unmodified one, the blue Special Edition came with leather seats and heaters were an option (very nice).

Almost impossible to find a decent one that hasn’t been modified and isn’t silly money at the moment.
