Engine won't accelerate above 3000rpm!!!
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I have a VW Transporter T5 LWB with the 2.0tdi (140bhp) engine. The van was driving great until one day when it now won't accelerate past approximately 3000rpm. When I accelerate, it pulls fine until this range but when I get to 3000rpm, the van feels like it is engine braking and sounds like a misfire (diesel knock). The van revs smoothly to the redline when stationary and the problem seems to get worse when the van is hot (oil temp 95 degrees +). The van does not have any fault codes and everything appears to be checking out OK on the Vagcom. There are also no unusual bad smells, smoke or noises from engine.
The following work has been done recently to try and rectify fault:
-New turbo
-New injectors
-New N75 Valve
-New MAF
-New boost sensor
-New fuel filter
-Service
-Compression checked OK.
I am at my wits-end with this fault as it has been to 3 garages and they are unable to see anything wrong! Based in Glasgow if anyone knows any VW specialists.
If anyone has had a similar experience or has any suggestions, I would love to hear from you!
Cheers,
Craig

Not sure if it might be a similar cause as not a diesel but my Son's Golf 1.4tsi had a similar problem - it wouldn't rev above around 3,000rpm and also had a sluggish throttle response in that rev range - turned out to be the throttle pedal that was playing up. I could 'reset' it using VCDS and it was OK for a while but would soon start doing it again, a new throttle pedal completely cured it.
There was another thread recently with a turbo motor which wouldn’t rev past a certain point when under load.
The owner put it on a dyno and saw that the intake pipe was collapsing shut at higher revs and choking the engine.
As you seem to have replaced most things, it might be worth checking that your air intake piping isn’t getting soft when hot and collapsing at high revs.

Hi Craig, I know this is an older post but I'm wondering if you ever found the fault? As I'm experiencing the same with my transporter.
