Audi boosts TT power

Four-cylinder cars get up to 10% more grunt

Audi has boosted the power outputs of the TT range,  but without, said Audi, greater fuel consumption or emissions, or price increases. OTR prices ranging from £21,090 to £32,360 remain unchanged. The new cars are available now.

At the entry point to the range, the TT Roadster now features a 161bhp version of the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which replaces its original 148bhp unit. This reduces its 0-62mph acceleration time to 8.2 seconds and increases its maximum speed to 135mph.

Front-wheel-drive TT Coupé and quattro four-wheel-drive Coupé and Roadster models also now feature a 187bhp version of the turbo unit, improving acceleration and boosting maximum speed across the board compared with the 178bhp engine it replaces. The TT Coupé with manual transmission, for example, hits 60mph in 7.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of 145mph.

As part of a rationalisation of the TT range structure for 2006, 222bhp versions have been phased out, leaving the TT Coupé quattro Sport with its 237bhp 1.8 T engine at the head of the four-cylinder TT line-up. The six-cylinder, 3.2-litre Coupé and Roadster quattro models with 247bhp continue as before.

Audi sells more TTs in Britain than anywhere else in the world and the company said this has been "a significant contributor to the steep rise of Audi sales from around 40,000 in 2000 to a predicted 78,000 by the end of 2005."

So when are they going to replace the TT? Surely we are due for another one soon?

Should be the R9 next year that is replacing it. Apparently it will be in direct competition with the Porsche 911 and £10,000 cheaper. Audi will be producing it alongside the Lamborghini. Personally I sold my TT, they were becoming to common and Audi has flooded the market with the bloody car. Although the TT is a great car, it is just simply not special anymore like the BMW (British Made for Wan****)
