Mk7 Golf - mirrors keep moving about when I select reverse
Discussion
I recently bought a Mk7 Golf 2.0 TDI which is an excellent car.
However, whenever I put it into reverse, the mirrors start moving about which is very disorientating, and they eventually end up in a position whereby all I can see is the rear wheels and the ground.
There's probably a really easy way of disabling this, but I went through various menus earlier today and couldn't work out how to do it.
Please help! It's driving me insane!

You have the mirror control/adjustment set to the nearside. This causes the nearside mirror to dip when you select reverse, helping you to see the kerb. Set the mirror control to the offside and the mirror won't dip when you select reverse.
Edit: you can set the 'mirror' position you prefer when dipped as well - the car will remember it next time you select reverse (unless the mirror adjustment is set to the offside - no dip).

It's almost as if the feature allows you to more easily position the car relative to the kerb!
No idea about the setup on Golfs, but if its anything like the cars I have driven you should be able to set the positions of the mirrors when reverse is selected to something that suits you better.

Perfect, I'll set it to the offside. That should prove more effective than my earlier efforts of shouting at it!
Thanks!

Cheers! I find the feature incredibly off-putting. The way it moves makes it difficult to focus, and once it's finally settled you can't see anything over three feet high or more than a few feet away.No idea about the setup on Golfs, but if its anything like the cars I have driven you should be able to set the positions of the mirrors when reverse is selected to something that suits you better.
Never mind, I'll be switching it off tomorrow!

It would be fun if shouting at things resolved things though. Just a thought - if BOTH mirrors are moving it sounds like someone's coded that on the car. Usually it's only the nearside that dips if I recall correctly.
It probably wasn't both to be honest. I was getting myself very worked up so I might have imagined that the other one was doing it as well!MrGTI6 said:

No idea what the preferred methods are that are taught these days though!

Usually dipped reverse mirror only works when the adjust knob is in the 'L' position. If you move it to position 'R' it should stop it from dippingHowever, whenever I put it into reverse, the mirrors start moving about which is very disorientating, and they eventually end up in a position whereby all I can see is the rear wheels and the ground.

Actually, I do have another gripe. When I put it in reverse, the stereo turns the volume right down. I assume this feature can be switched off too?
To adjust that volume, look in the menus. Edited by MrGTI6 on Monday 16th May 22:29
Advice: look through all the menus yourself, learn how to set the car how you prefer it. You’ll then be the expert with no need to ask the forum such mind numbing boring questions about the most basic features.

The responses on here have been spot on, but I take on board your comments about becoming familiar with the menus.Advice: look through all the menus yourself, learn how to set the car how you prefer it. And please accept my apologies if my questions have bored you! Based on your username, my old man's only a little younger than you. He can be a miserable old sod too
