I've been looking around lately at BMW 3 & 5 series petrol touring and Audi A6 estates (petrol) as the replacement for my recently sold BMW F01 730D

I'm thinking of going down the Japanese import route again due to their overall condition, my previous E39 touring was pristine!

I'm after a petrol estate; no need for diesels at all as I only do 4k'ish miles a year and now I'm no longer working for me=, but another company, and still from home, mileage will be low...

Anyway...

I know NOTHING re Audi's...

The A6s are the C6 3.0 TFSI cars; Japanese imports

So; what are the general issues with these cars, what are the prices like for standard suspension/brake parts replacement etc and what are the absolutes with these cars

Cheers

I think the engines are basically detuned S4 engines so respond well to a remap.

I think they are generally pretty reliable - the auto box is the ZF6 which is obviously well understood

Cheers for that

The ZF6 box will be the same as I had in my BMW E65 and recent F01 7 series, so that's good. Solid boxes...

Are the 3.0 TFSI engines on chains or belts? Any known issues.?

I had one for a while as at the time was cheaper than an S4 with basically the same engine slightly detuned. 290hp vs 330hp iirc. Both remap up to about 400hp.
No DSG gearbox to worry about.
I did about 25000 miles in mine up to just shy of 100k when it was written off on the A30 by someone turning across in front of me. The airbags are good!
Normal A6/A4 front suspension arm wear issues.
The cams are chain driven. Seems like some S4s are rattling and needing attention - i suspect it depends on how they are driven - more time at higher rpm can't be good for the tensioners. Thankfully the A6 is more of a cruiser than screamer - but can get a move on when needed.
Mine burnt oil - about a litre every 1500 miles. My S4, with more miles doesnt. No idea why.

I'd recommend one.

Thanks for that; a good insight
