Looking to get my steering wheel re trimmed, mainly because it’s a bit thin (Audi A1)

Does anyone know if this part of the wheel usually gets done as part of the trimming?

On the two wheels I've had done, no it doesn't.

You can probably request it to be done though.

As above, no, that’s a plastic trim that just gets unscrewed and then refitted after trimming. I’d imagine it’s a bit of a pain to trim that as the tolerances for clearance to the wheel and the other trim on the column are tight.

And they will make the grips or the entire rim thicker fit you need it.

Yeah I’m speaking to Jack.
He’s not too swift on the replies though biggrin

My car’s only done 8k - so if I swap out the wheel with one of his retrimmed ones then I don’t want that part all shiny and used! Mines like new. Did that part swap out on yours?

Ps: Is yours one of his reshaped flat bottom wheels?

All the parts swap over so all the wheel controls air bag etc stay on your car. Just the wheel base is swapped. Yeah mine is a re shaped flat bottom one. His work is top notch and he's very highly regarded, understandably so.

Another vote for Royal Steering. He did a lovely job in Alcántara and Leather on my Mustang GT.

I drove up when the wheel was ready and he even fitted it. All for around 200 quid, may have been less.

Yep.
I just wanted to know if that plastic part was part of the wheel base or something that unscrews/unclips

The plastic on all three spokes unclips and is fitted to the new one.
