Audi A5 - 1.8 or 2.0 TFSI??
Discussion
Hi all
Looking at Audi A5s and want to go petrol as i dont do crazy miles
Would naturally be drawn to the 2.0 TFSI but ive read so many things about that engine, even just doing a quick search on autotrader and you'll see out of the 10 A5s in my price range 3 of the 2.0 have had replacement engines!
Am i being clever going for the 1.8 (Not too worried about the difference in performance as ive been driving a VW T5 for the past few years so will still be a dream to drive compared to that!) or does that engine have exactly the same faults as its bigger brother?
The cars im looking at have done around 100K and are 2008-2009 in age
Cheers

Assuming:
You're looking at early cars
You don't want four wheel drive
You are happy with power from 1.8
Whatever you buy has already had piston rings done
Get the 1.8; they drive well for what they are. Smooth, quiet, enough torque, reasonable fuel economy.
If you want a bit of poke then the 2.0 quattro is a better steer.

I'd go for a 2.0TFsi over a 1.8 any day, the 1.8's have chain issues. The new engine would be a positive for me.
They are literally the same engine, apart from the 1.8 has a shorter stroke to make it 1.8 and a few minor changes. Both are EA888 Gen 1 which had their issues.
