AUDI A5 upgrade 1.8t engine to a S5 3.0 tfsi CAUA engine
Discussion
Hello,
Hope i am posting in right place.
any advice welcome.
i am looking to upgrade the 1.8t PETROL engine to a S5 3.0 tfsi CAUA engine i believe would be best engine model fit after some research as manual also.
i have a 1.8t CJEE 177 PS car, manual gearbox.
what else do i need to be aware of and purchase?
new brake system?
new gearbox?
new axles?
anything else?
are these necessary?
i was hoping the original gearbox would be ok
i would employ a qualified mechanic of course.
thanks
The electronics alone will make this not worth doing, IMO.
You'll have to transplant multiple control units, plus things like instrument clusters and even then you're going to have to undertake extensive rewiring. That's without the work involved in physically making the thing fit.
The old days of stuffing a bigger engine in a car, maybe fabricating a few engine and transmission mounts, perhaps getting some custom driveshafts made, and hacking the wiring about a bit are long gone.
My advice would be to just buy a 3.0 A5.

Wasn't your last post an odd one too? About ripping out the convertible bits from a BMW and using it as a track car: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
If your last thread worked out for you (are you good with a set of spanners etc?) then i'd say go for the engine swap. If you aren't all that hands-on; the swap sounds like a real money-sink.

Apart from all the other stuff mentioned above, I would think the labour alone might come close on the price to swap for an S5?Unless you can do all the work yourself and already have, or can get cheap, all the parts then this will likely cost way more than buying an S5 and, ultimately be worth much less if you ever sell it.
But, if you do it I'd be interested to read about it.

The school holidays have started early in some areas.......If your last thread worked out for you (are you good with a set of spanners etc?) then i'd say go for the engine swap. If you aren't all that hands-on; the swap sounds like a real money-sink.

What budget do you think you'll achieve this with? i would employ a qualified mechanic of course.

"never build a car you can buy"
Just buy an S5. Converting yours will cost way more than you imagine (as you're not capable of DIYing it) and it'll take forever.
Pessimism/Reality.... You decide!

I suspect as much. But part of me is hoping that the OP really did go down the convertible-track-car route; and it was a success. And that the OP will post up here in a few months showing the progress of the engine swap . . . Or possibly not.
Just buy the car with the correct engine.
Years ago a lad I knew locally had a SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16v and he paid some company locally ££££ to fit the 1.8T engine out of the Ibiza FR/Cupra simply because he liked the colour of his car.
We all told him just buy the 1.8T car and have it painted but he didn't listen, what he ended up with was an unreliable car that kept breaking down.
