I'm looking for a Leon 4 Drive for my next daily car. And I see around 2018 they changed from the 6sp dsg gearbox with a wet clutch, to the 7sp dsg gearbox with a dry clutch. Any opinions about which transmission is better/more reliable?
They don't have the 7 speed dry clutch, they have the newer 7 speed wet clutch system (DQ380/DQ381) - its basically a variation/spawn of the DQ500 box in the audi RS3The 7 speed dry clutch system is torque limited so cannot handle much more than the 1.5 TSI's torque, so is limited to smaller engine'd cars.

The 7 speed Leon 4 drives have the facelifted digital dash too, is that likely to have issues as the cars age?
If there were issues nobody would buy them, if you're worried about extra costs get a warranty.I got my 2014 Cupra 280 with a Warrantywise Platinum warranty and carried it on ever since for £40 a month.
I already needed a new waterpump which they covered at about £800, I had to add a bit but that was because of the garages rate.

£40 a month and you still had to pay more, someone has pulled your trousers down. I'd be getting a 2 year SEAT warranty with the car anyway. I got my 2014 Cupra 280 with a Warrantywise Platinum warranty and carried it on ever since for £40 a month.

Covers up to the purchase price of the car for a repair, what I had to pay was the difference of £50 p/h labour that was on the warranty to the higher labour at the indy who were doing it.A year of paying the warranty + what I paid was still less than £800.

Owners on Cupranet have paid much less...
Good for them, my point is I still spent less in the year with the warranty than I would of spent without it.Why are you worried about things breaking when you're getting a 2 year warranty anyway, theres horror stories of how much DSG boxes can cost you if they break everywhere. You're not taking a risk if its serviced right and you have a warranty.

I don't, but I googled Cupra water pump replacement, and it took me to a thread there. And someone with a similar name to matey on this thread.
Yea I am on there as well. When you said paid less I thought you meant warranty.
I did look around at waterpump replacements for Cupra/R/S3 and they were around £700-800 on most posts on different forums. Audi were charging people getting on for £1,000 for it.
I used a good VAG indy near me for it, I didn't go looking for the cheapest, I just went where they knew what they were doing.
I have a 3 and a bit year old 7 speed. It's been a brilliant all round daily. Very hard to fault really.
Never had any issues with 7 speed box or digital dash and they both make the car a bit more modern feeling.
Generally speaking the 7 speeds will have the silly cooper bits and be 68 plate onwards.
The digital dash came in a bit earlier in 2018.
There will be a very small number of non-copper 7 speeds but they were only made for a couple of weeks.
Also bear in mind the copper ones will all have a GPF as well. This doesn't cause any problems (like DPFs do) but does make the exhaust very quiet for a "sporty" model.

I went to a SEAT dealer in Letchworth fully intending to buy one. Spec seemed good, 7 speed, full leather and heated seats. uprated stereo. In that nice red colour, but when I got there the front end looked like it had taken a hit from a shotgun. And for 300 bhp it didn't feel that quick.
