I have an Audi A4 (51 Reg) which has a full Audi service history. Someone mentioned to me recently that provided I had the car serviced by a reputable non-Audi servicer it would not affect the residual value of the car. Any views on this would be much appreciated and if the answer is that it would not affect the residual value of the car can anyone recommend anywhere suitable to provide the service in the Romford/Essex area ?

Thanks in advance,

Kristen

It will affect the residual value somewhat, as most people still think a full dealer history is worth more than not so more people will be interested in your car when you come to sell it and you can potentially get a better price.

However, whether you'll get back the extra you paid in the first place depends on how long you plan to keep it and what sort of use it's had.

Think how long you're going to keep it and how many miles it'll have when you plan to sell, look at the difference between top and bottom prices in e.g. Parkers for a similar model that is the same number of years older than yours is to see what the approximate spread is, then compare that with the difference in servicing costs over the period.

Whatever you do make sure you get an itemised, dated receipt that lists work done and parts fitted, and keep it in a safe place. A stamped service book isn't enough these days.

dunno about 'guides' anymore anyway. Cars are going for a lot cheaper than they say, have you noticed? "Cars are getting cheaper" seems to hold true
