Thinking of buying - A6 Avant - 3.0 TFSI SE Auto quattro
Discussion
Will be a C6 if 2010 car; old 6 speed ZF torque convertor, which is strong and rarely gives any issues.
Read the S4 thread for details on that engine, which is generally good.
Car itself is strong and well liked, but suffered somewhat from that reputation. Many were run on a shoestring as values fell, with commensurate dive in reliability and condition. If the car is sound you'll mostly be dealing with 'old car' stuff, rather than inherent issues or poor quality. Most maintenance parts are cheap. Most other stuff widely available secondhand.

I had an S-line version. It was great until it was written off.
Normal old A6/A4 suspension arm wear.
Used quite a lot of oil (a litre every 1500 miles) despite only 80k miles - I suspect it could have been clocked. My current 2009 S4 doesn’t use any at 110k.
Great engine and not too thirsty - could get 32-34 mpg on a run.
There’s another thread here about them. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

We've done some more digging and the one we were considering is a Japanese import.... run away or not?
The white one on trader? No salt on the roads but lots of smokers, maintenance standard generally very high.
Does the navigation, infotainment etc. work? What's been done (if anything) to the instrument cluster? It can all be done nicely, it can also be lashed up quick and dirty... I do some work for Seymour Pope who bring in a lot of Japanese VW/Audi and do everything to a high standard, but also see a few that are done by whatever means is cheapest.
Yeah, a lot of outfits seem to manage with not even converting the speedometer/odometer correctly, or wiring rear fog light if it doesn't come with one for Japan market (it didn't used to be required, but that might not mean Audi deleted it from the spec)
Infotainment would be a nightmare if not been replaced. In theory it's possible to region convert MMI, or replace everything, but if it's not been done it's not cheap if paying someone else to do it.
