As the rs6 is looking at a lead time of around 12 months, I’m considering cancelling the order to get something else instead. I can’t find an rs6 lightly used in the spec I want and in any case it’s more expensive than buying new.

I’ve come close to an rsq8 which definitely has the better interior of the two, with features that aren’t available to be specced on the rs6, but after driving it a couple of times I’ve been underwhelmed with the perception of speed and it doesn’t feel as special to drive as the rs6 and it feels much more heavy. Also I’ve come to realise that I don’t think I like the higher suv position when it comes to a powerful car, whereas I’d happily drive around my wife’s Sportage all day if I had to.

So I’m a little stuck as to what to do if I do cancel. I’ve got a booking next week to drive a taycan sport turismo but I’m not sure I’m ready to go electric this time, I think I need to give it longer for the infrastructure to catch up a bit.

So, any suggestions as to what else I could consider? Obviously size wise along these lines, most saloons don’t fit the required luggage for kids and I had a c8 rs7 for a month which spent all but 6 days back with Audi and eventually got rejected, so would rather not one of those either.

Thanks.

I'd stick with the RS6 - there will surely be a similar lead time with most new alternatives.

It doesn’t have to be new, I went for a new rs6 as it was the cheapest way to get my spec vs a used one. Buy a lightly used different car is ok. The only other car is order new would be the taycan as they will be here in September

How about a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo? They still suffer some pretty savage depreciation straight away so some aren’t too far away from the RS6 in terms of price. And they’re a truly stunning bit of kit.

How nice is this? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203143...

I’ve driven the Panam Turbo and new RS6 in the canyons and despite the 50hp deficit the Porsche by far felt the fastest of the two. A much more involving drive too

What’s the RS6 spec you’re after btw?

I’ll have a look at it for sure.

I’m looking for everything on the vorsprung plus the full leather dash package without the DRC suspension. I’ve had to compromise on removing the DRC because they won’t let me remove it but I’ve got everything else on the order.

Ah big spec then. I see why you want to remove DRC too.

Do keep us updated, will be very interested to hear your thoughts on the Panamera Turbo ST

That Panamera is stunning - I saw one recently parked up and it looked great. Boot obviously not as usable as the RS6, and that massive centre console limits use of the 5th seat (but can see it does at least have 3 belts across the back) but I'd be seriously tempted if I was in the market (I'm currently looking at S6 Avants but finding one with ACC, pano roof, heated rear seats is proving near enough impossible!)
