VW Golf GT TDi 140 RNS 510 unit stuck in German

I hope someone can help me!! I have just bought a 59 plate VW Golf GT TDi 140 with an RNS 510 Sat Nav/Radio unit. The front & rear parking sensors appear on the graphic on the left hand side on screen & the sound of the parking sensors come through the speakers. The rear camera picture doesn't show on the screen. Also the entire display is in German. I have tried changing the language to English with no success. The radio will select stations but no sound comes through the speakers. I have tried connecting my phone to the aux speaker & no sound. I've also tried playing a CD - no sound & it wont play. I've tried taking the car into VW & they can't sort it. This is seriously frustrating - if I need a new head unit then so be it, but if I can get it working then this will be a huge bonus!!!

Could be someone has fitted a second hand head unit and it’s not properly coded to your car?

Needs VCDS or similar to check the coding and see if it’s miles off in terms of things you can change to match your vehicle spec

maybe one of the companies that retro fits sat nav, parking sensors, reverse cameras, etc might be worth a try ?

This could be the case, however the previous owner said this has happened before when the battery went flat & he had to re-charge it. I'll try an independent specialist locally & see if they can sort it.

What is the 'Location' set to?

Not sure if this will help as it was a completely different issue but on my Son's MK6 Golf, I wanted to enable the large, digital speedo and to show in MPH rather than KMH which it shows as the dial is only single-scale MPH only.

To do so I had to change location to 'rest of world' as when set to UK it won't show MPH

Different locations allow a different set of configurations than the specific country, I then had to switch to MPG to get the MPH reading rather than KMH but it needed the location switching first.

I don't know if your problem might be location based, yours may even be set to Germany?
