Skoda Fabia 1.5 DSG Monte Carlo, interesting

Anyone seen this online?:

I've checked their UK site and no sign yet, looks good apart form the DSG gearbox and red accents inside. I would still like to try one out, I had the 1.4 COD engine in the Polo Blue GT and it's a decent engine to be honest, good levels of torque plus good MPG.

I don't know why they haven't brought back a diesel powered VRS, at long as it was ulez complaint I reckon it would sell like hot cakes
It's a taboo word now for most buyers, regardless of the facts, and makes a company look behind the times for them to still be pushing diesel. I have seen a piece on the new VRS equivalent, looks good but don't know much about the engine. I'm actually quite interested in the Monte Carlo with the 1.0 Tsi engine. 3 cyl turbo with a about 110bhp, and since even the estate is only about 1000kg or so, its fairly nippy and frugal.
The 1.5 TSI engine is capable but devoid of any kind of character.
My girlfriend has the 130 version in her Golf and it is never slow but never really feels like its going anywhere. It seems fairly economical (averaging mid 40s on mixed usage) and when driving normally is nice and quiet, but doesn't have any fizz or tuneful engine note when pushing on.
I have driven the same 130bhp version of the engine with the DSG in a courtesy car, and again it was refined and smooth but I wouldn't call it sporty, with the gearbox obsessed with upchanging to get the revs as low as possible.

If this is the same 1.5 engine in the golf I've heard they have a number of issues ?

There were some early issues with the 1.5 but apparently that's been sorted with some mild remapping. My Blue GT drove very much like a small diesel, had 250NM of torque as well which made it very flexible.I don't know why they haven't brought back a diesel powered VRS, at long as it was ulez complaint I reckon it would sell like hot cakes
Diesel is the fuel of satan apparently so that's killed the VRS version although you could just badge the Monte Carlo as VRS. Less letters to worry about on the badge Does that mean that buying a second hand diesel now is a winner as the prices may have bombed? Not checked so can't be sure.

Just found this and I'm having a read: https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/motoring-is...
We have the 1.5 tsi is SWMBOs Octavia sport and its a good compromise - you can make reasonable progress when needed and its quite frugal.
The way we’re going with ICE engines, carbon footprint and speed bashers I think its a good all rounder. In something slightly lighter like the Fabia I think it would be better in the fun department!

This is my thinking exactly! I'm running about in a Golf GTi MK 7.5 and it feels massive overkill most of the time. The old shape Polo Blue GT was great for making reasonable progress. The way we’re going with ICE engines, carbon footprint and speed bashers I think its a good all rounder.
