What a massive pain in the ass this is turning out to be!
Brief background, my wife had a Q3, and a 12T horse lorry (which I drive as she doesn't have the relevant licence)
Decided it would be much easier to go back to a car and trailer arrangement, so the Q3 went back, and was replaced by a 2018 petrol SQ5.
We've been chasing our local Audi garage for months and months about getting it booked in for a towbar.
Finally, after many calls, e-mails, and one visit to the showroom, they agreed to book us in. As long as we paid them the £1800 they wanted to supply and fit the part, up front, now. Which differed from the £1600 on the e-mail quote they sent me, so after some to-and-fro, it became £1600 again.
Oh, and also, whilst they'd given us a date, they couldn't actually guarantee that they'd have a part by then,
So, we wait 6 weeks until the day before the car is booked to go in, call them up:
"Ah, no your part isn't here, and we don't know when it will be. We actually have one in stock for a customer that's coming to get it fitted in March, but we can't give you that."
Which I don't really have an issue with, as some lady has apparently also paid for parts and labour for that part in advance.
So, my wife skips a couple of steps, and speaks to Audi UK.
Who were absolutely outraged that our local garage has taken our money for not only a part, but the fitting of it, when they don't have it in stock, and cannot give us a date.
Well, actually, they've told us it will be here by the end of Feb. When my wife mentioned that to the nice lady at Audi UK on the phone, we were told that they cannot possibly know that, and they have no idea when the part will be available.
Audi UK have since refunded £500 of the cost, but we still have no idea when the part will be available. They've also told us that if we incur any more costs as a result of not having the part fitted to our car, to pass them straight on, however if it comes to it, I can always borrow someone's suitable tow car, I'm not going to be a dick about it and go rent something.
Initially they were putting the uncertainty down to 'microchips', but have now conceded that they actually have all the electrics and electronics, it's the actual big metal bit they cannot source.
Not really much of a point to this, more of a st rant than anything else, but has anyone has any recent similar problems?

Agreed - we had the same ridiculousness from VW for a bar for Mrs T's Polo... cost lots... endless waits for nothing etc etc. Phoned PFJones - electrics arrived next day (VW branded parts) the bar arrived the day after that and a friendly long haired chap fitted it on our drive with no fuss or kafuffle a few days later. Has been fault free and highly recommended.

Get a full refund and get an aftermarket one for a third of the cost
A retractable aftermarket one with the same functionality as the OEM part? She doesn't want an ugly tow bar sticking out the back when it's not in use.
Thought I'd revisit this in case anyone was interested.
Dropped the car off yesterday, they fitted the part on the nightshift last night, we're going to pick it up at lunch time.
Audi UK have refunded us £500, the local Audi garage in question have refunded us £500, and Audi UK have reported the garage to the motoring ombudsman.
They've been in touch to say that as we've accepted a partial refund, there will not be any further compensation payments (we didn't ask for one, it wasn't even us that reported the garage!) but that we should expect an offer of free servicing and an MOT or so for our 'troubles'
Been a pain in the ass from start to finish, but ~£550 quid its cost in the end, for a ~£1600 towbar

good result in the end - especially if a motorised fandango one that retracts.
I had fitted (with one week lead time) a removable Westfalia one to my A6 Allroad and it seems to fit the bill well and drags a nag box too.
They insisted the installation does not affect the Audi Warranty too which was essential to me.
