Golf diesel question
Discussion
Anyone got a golf 1.9tdi 115? - i've just got one (X reg with 70,000 on the clock).
On acceleration, it pulls great from about 1600-2000 revs, then suddenly dies away as if the turbo's stopped working. This happens every time i accelerate without fail, in any gear.
Surely the turbo shouldn't just die like that?
Lifting off the throttle then gently re-applying it seems to coax a bit more power, but is intermittent.
Other than that it's a great car - any experiences or suggestions would be appreciated

Your MAF might have gone bad, very common problem. Might be worth trying the procedure on the link below to see if it yields any improvement. I dont think a replacement is that expensive.

(Dont worry about it being a seat page, they are all pretty much the same).

Doesn't sound right, but before pulling anything to bits, see if you can find someone with the diagnostic kit to read the fault codes from the ECU.
I'd recommend joining UK MkIV's (www.uk-mkivs.net), then look in the VAG-COM User Information forum for someone near you.
Once you know what the codes are, you can get some more informed advice on where the problem might be.

the best way to check the MAF is to disconnect it, try the car down the road and see if the performance improves,if it does then its faulty
by disconnecting it goes to its default value from its faulty value. dont wash it out
what happens is every time the engine starts it sends a small voltage down the sensor wire to clean the carbon off it, after some time time this shorts the wire out and the sensor no longer works
