I am looking for recommendations for either a standalone OBD reader or a VAG COM lead/software to access and clear various fault codes on a 2006 Audi A4. Any recommendations?

I use VCDS from Ross-Tech (VAG COM), not cheap but does everything you need and I've more than got my money back from doing jobs that I would otherwise have paid for.

I bought mine (UK) from Gendan; https://www.gendan.co.uk/index.php

A lot of people recommend the mobile torque pro app too, may be worth looking at.

I bought the proper rosstech vcds about 8 years ago. Cost approx £250 then. Has more than paid for itself.
Looking at sold prices on a well known auction site I could probably get most of that back if I sold it now.

Some of the new versions of rosstech vcds are limited by vin. To get the unlimited version of the new interface starts at approx £450.

No experience of using other makes/brands.

I can’t remember the exact details now but when I upgraded to a better Rosstech device several years ago and sold the old device Rosstech got a bit snotty about registering the device with a new owner, something to do with limited support or something so could be worth checking this out if you buy a used one.
