Audi TT MK3 advice needed.
Discussion
I wonder if any owners of newer MK’s (2018 onwards) could help me out here with some ownership info/experience?
When the current crazy inflated prices of second hand cars calms down a bit (hopefully sooner rather than later), I may well be interested in buying a low’ish miles 18, 19, or 20 plate 2,0 L S Line or Black Edition TT. I’ve never bought or owned German before, always Japanese; my daily is a bullet proof 11 year old Yaris, which is basically about nothing more than tyres, services, and not a lot else, in terms of expense; reliability is a given. I’ve just retired and fancy replacing an old weekends only MK3 MR2 I recently sold, for a newish TT, but feel I need some owners info to help me.
With that in mind I have a couple of questions:
1. Whatever plate I go for, in terms of reliability and less potential problems, am I best avoiding the S Tronic auto box and sticking with manual? I have heard horror stories about the (megatronic?) auto box, but is that largely historic, or are there still those legacy issues with newer plate autos? I ask, not least coz most 19 and 20 plate TTs seem to be auto.
2. If the autos are now ok, is there more expense with them in terms of oil / services etc?
3. Gearbox choice/issues aside, are these largely reliable cars? My use would potentially be occasional/weekends only/ not daily. Probably no more than about 3k a year, and I’d be looking at longer term ownership.....5 years minimum.
4. Any specific issues or problems I should be aware of?
5. Assuming there is either no warranty, or soon to expire, on any TT I buy, am I gonna need to get a warranty, or for that low annual mileage is it a low risk without one?
6. The paintwork on a lot of Toyota’s is notoriously ‘soft’. I’ve noticed that TT paintwork seems ‘harder’ and to hold up better; is that your experience?
7. Are there any colours to avoid? I know Audi seems to love ‘Fifty shades of grey’, which is ok by me, really but I gather the ‘pearl’ effect ones are problematic to colour match after repair etc. I wouldn’t be interested in red or Glacier white, or black, or any ‘left field’ colours like yellow etc, lol, but other than that are there any colours to avoid, or colour recommendations where match is easier?
8. What are the service intervals?
Thanks in advance for any help.
