I've been looking around for a luxury motor and a lot of focus seems to go on the SUV type cars like Range Rovers, X5s etc. I've noticed the used prices of an A8 at 3 years old seem almost bargain spec in comparison to the SUVs.

Just how ruinous would it be if something went wrong? Do people have 3rd party warranty vendors for VAG cars that are sensibly priced?

Any stories of ones going very badly wrong?

Quality is pretty nice, actually.

The more complex you get the more limited your choice of people to fix it becomes. A lot of independents (or even "specialists") probably won't want to touch more involved electronic/software jobs.

Random 2018 A8:

Named component cover from Audi 692, all component 954. Not terrifying given that the cars are "cheap".

Is that warranty direct from Audi? Any links to the prices and small print?

That isn’t bad at all considering some of the prices I see for Range Rover warranty.

just need a decent local vw group specialist,

90% of the components will be shared or similar to other models in the range ala the A6 for mechanicals and i'd imagine some of the Q models as well.

my preference is for BMWs and my local indy can do everything my main dealer can do and more at half the price. if the mileage is reasonable get a audi extended warranty if you want a bit of piece of mind regarding big borkage bills, or ask about on here for a recommendations for a decent local indy

I live in the Midlands so have Midland VW and Volkswizard reasonably close by. I might see what their views are on the A8 before looking any further!

Funnily enough, I’m currently in an L405 Range Rover and looking at getting into an A8. Perfect spec for me would be S Line with the petrol 3.0 TFSI engine.

However the earlier D4 S8 is also calling me…

Any reason you are looking to move away from a Range?

I’ve always been an Audi fanboy. Previously I’ve had a TT, two C6 S6’s, a C7 S6 and a D4 A8 3.0 TFSI.

I’ve also had an L322 Range and an early Sport.

I just want to get back into a fast saloon.
