Skoda vrs tdi- boost leak or turbo death…
Discussion
So…. Recently got a 2006 Octavia vrs rbi (BNM engine). Couple of days ago it started making a whistle/whine that comes on from 1000rpm and raises with the revs. I’m trying to figure out if it’s a boost leak or a dying turbo.
Initially I thought the turbo, as it has a ‘siren’ noise to it (google called it the death whine). However, it’s now accompanied by a suck/whoosh when the revs rise, making me think it’s a boost leak.
If I disconnect one of the vacuum hoses, there is no boost when driving (as no boost pressure), and also no siren noise. Would this count out the turbo dying? I assume it will be spooling up regardless, so I’d hear it regardless of boost if it was the bearings or impellers going?
Any advice greatly received!
