Hi got a bit of a strange question for you folks. I have a VW Polo which has a hard sporty style steering wheel and gear knob. Virtually no padding on either. Trouble is my hands are getting more arthritic so I was wondering what the best option is, can I replace the steering wheel and gear knob? Or can you buy better padding for them? Or is there another option to make them more gentler and comfortable on the hands? Obviously as a last resort I could sell the car but I’d rather not if I can help it. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Some sort of padded steering wheel cover will probably do the trick, there are plenty on Amazon.

It might be possible to swap out the steering wheel from a different Polo, but you would need to know if it's any improvement beforehand and depending on the model you might have some issues with steering wheel buttons.

Have you tried a pair of driving gloves?

There are a couple of well recommended companies that refurbish wheels to customer specifications. Snappy steering wheels and royal wheels.
Snappy only appears to be contactable through various Renault forums, but royals are here:

Not sure the driving gloves would be padded enough to help, same with the steering wheel covers, they seem to be designed for looks rather than comfort?

Just been to Halfords to look at their covers but none of them had any padding in, they are essentially just leather covers

Any local car trimmer will be able to make something to your specification/requirements.....
And you'll be talking to the person who's doing the making
