Just bought a 2007 Golf Mk5 dirty diesel with only 32k miles as our runabout. Comes with full VW service history and stamped service book. So that's reassuring then, right? Boxes ticked correctly?

The air filter was not too bad so I had high hopes. Then I had a peek at the pollen filter....

Not sure about your car but cabin filters are not always part of the service schedule.

Theses are on a 2 yearly change at VW. Or supposed to be.

That's not unusual at all. Most main dealers don't bother changing the cabin filter, usually because it's in such a bhing position.

any other evidence to back up the FSH or just stamps in the book?

Even if the car did visit VW for a service each year, lots of owners demand the cheapest service, which will be an inspection and an oil service.
All the other things like fuel filter, brake fluid change, timing belt, air filter, get ignored due to £££'s.

Yes I understand this. Curiously though it looks like the DSG service has been done, nice new shiny drain plug, clean filter cap etc so that wouldn't have been cheap.

Best have a look at the state of the timing belt now then.....

There are only VW dealer stamps - same dealer throughout - in the book so who knows?

The selling trader had replaced the front suspension arms and fitted new brake discs and pads all round plus a full set of tyres and refurbished the alloys too. Does make it sound like the previous owner couldn't afford the upkeep.
