Golf GTE winter wheels / tyres
Discussion
Quick question for the collective, if you wouldn't mind putting my mind to rest.
I've ended up with a 2018 VW Golf Mk7.5 GTE Advance running on factory 18's (long story) - I understand the GTE has the 310mm front callipers a la GTI (non PP) and I'm trying to find definitive information as to whether the car will allow the fit of 16" winter wheels (OEM Golf). I know 17" fit (as the non advance GTE has them) and In theory 16" should fit.
However trying to find anything written down by Volkswagen or easily available from the dealer is next to impossible, every other modern car I have owned has this information printed in the manual, but no, volkswagen seem to treat the supported wheel sizes for their cars as a state secret.... the only wheel size I can see in the entire manual set is where it references snow chains - which is 6jx16 ET48 - which is a start.
I can measure (via a blutac block wedged between the caliper and the wheel) get a gap of 35mm on the OE 18's.
Reducing the wheel size by 2" will logically reduce the gap by 2.54cm leaving about 9mm to play with, but this needs to handle wheel weights & stones etc...
So the question is does anyone with a GTE or a GTI (non PP) run 16" winters on their Golf Mk7/7.5 & if so did they have any problems with alloy choice.?
I know I'm probably overthinking it - but it's a long schlep from the wilds of Cumbria to a decent wheel shop or better for my wallet an Ebay collection so advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
S.

Thanks,
But that only adds to confusion - depending on the way you use the site you get 2 answers
Select VW, Golf, MK7 then if you select GTI - you only get 17 & 18,
But
If you go straight to the 16" wheels it says the 16" wheels support the MK7 GTI
It also doesnt mention the GTE at all...
To add to the confusion - mytyres.co.uk will happily sell me a 16" set of alloys to go with the Golf GTE..
More to the point My Insurer inline with the ABI code of practice allows me to fit winter tyres that comply with the manufacturers specifications
- and as they dont seem to publish them, this leaves me hanging..
