My generic bluetooth OBD reader does not seem to connect to my B6 Audi. No idea why as worked on all my other cars (and previous). Does anyone have a recommendation for a cheap reader for this era? Would I be better with a cheap VAG-COM cable and a laptop?

If you are in west Yorks I can plug my VCDS into it. Free if you are brave enough to drive in Batley. wink

Ah thanks so much Iain but this car is down in Spain so bit much to trailer it back to eliminate the air bag light! Fairly sure I know what the fault is and needs me to remove the drivers seat and solder a direct connection, but would be useful if I had a code reader that works for the car regardless as occasionally get an errant traction control light too.

Annoying that my generic ones have worked on my Lotus, Aston, Merc etc but not the Audi.

As a first step, I would disconnect the plugs under both seats and spray with contact cleaner or WD40. This often fixes this type of fault as the slight resistance from bad joints triggers the light. You can of course solder them for a permanent fix - even crimping connectors works even if not pretty.

But a nice bit of sun wouldn't go amiss...
