Audi A4 B5 rear hub sheared off!
Discussion
I was driving along the M40 last week when the ABS light came on, a quick brake test showed all was ok so I carried on.
10 minutes later all hell broke loose, felt like I had punctures on all 4 tyres and the car stopped very quickly, fortunately I managed to get it onto the hard shoulder - and there at least was one! (thread for another topic). the car was barely controllable as I did.
The ns rear wheel is at a funny angle, so is the brake disc, it looks like the calliper is all that's holding it on. Wheel is totally locked. AA man had to use plastic slide to move vehicle.
I guess I just need a new hub, is that difficult? am puzzled it failed so suddenly, there was no worn bearing noise beforehand.
As the wheel remained with the car and didn't exit, there's no bodywork damage.
I did browse auto trader for a new shed but it's all so expensive at the moment I plan to fix this.
Has this happened to anyone else?
