Hi everyone was hoping for some help please. I have a 2009 scirocco 2.0 tsi with 90,000 mileage which is burning oil. I dont know the exact consumption but it has used about 1.6-1.7 litres in 1750 miles so maybe around 1 litre in 1000 miles. I have had the car up on ramps with no leaks found. When i bought the car I did some reading and replaced the pcv valve for the latest oem part and serviced the car with castrol 5w40 oil. The car isn’t smoking apart from usual condensation from the exhausts. Im thinking the next step would be wet and dry compression tests what do you reckon? Thank you in advance

Is the car new to you, or you've had it a while and it has just started using oil?

I ask that because it can be normal - my Mk5 Golf GTI drank loads of oil. It was worse with short trips and urban driving.

Had the car almost 3 months now. Bought it off a private seller who had the car for a year and the owner before him had it 7 years so cant imagine them having spent loads of £££ on oil. To be honest most of my driving is urban and short journeys.

What was your mk5 consumption like?

MK5 GTI uses the EA113 engine whereas the Scirocco uses the EA888 engine, unless its the R model.

Lots of useful information over on Scirocco Central forum.

In case you're not aware the timing chain tensioner on engines of that era are a weak point. Most owners replace them to the latest version for peace of mind.

Timing chain was replaced a few years back so should be good there.

Reading online there’s a lot about vw and audi tsi engines having high oil consumption due to a design issue with the pistons and rings I hope that’s not my problem. Dont want to go down the engine strip route yet so will check the spark plugs for oil deposits and get wet and dry compression tests done.
