Is this high millage Audi A3 worth buying?
Discussion
It's a 2009 Audi A3 1.4 TFSI Sportback S Tronic 5dr Automatic
very high millage 160,000!
but has full service history by Audi and seller claims it's been well looked after only 2 owners with new tyres also timing belt and transmission oil changed recently
they are asking 2k for it.

I didn’t think they did a 1.4 S3 did they? very high millage 160,000!

Happy to be corrected but I’m 99% sure that all S3’s are 2 litre. Have you made a mistake or is the seller pulling wool over your eyes?

At 2k if you get a year out of it then sell for scrap it would be reasonable value for money. Anything more is a bonus.
That's my thinking. If they were asking £3-4k, I'd run. £2k isn't far off bangernomics pricing and it should last at least a year. OPer, I'd wonder what state the turbo is in as well as that DSG box. You can at least check the box by going for a drive in moderately fast roads as well as taking it round slow roads with mini roundabouts and T-junctions to see how it behaves when it's having to change gear a lot. If it shudders, jerks (imagine what it feels like if you change a manual gear badly) or looks like it's struggling to find the next gear, then the box is in trouble. An oil change might fix it... but it might not.

It's the old 1.4 and a DSG on that mileage OP seriously I know it probably looks quite nice but that 2k will soon be 2k+ with bills with that engine and that gearbox of that era.
Interesting - that would then bring it in line with lower mileage examples... except you have a 160k mile car still!Does sound like a false economy.
A £4k budget is not bangernomic territory. Bangernomics to me is when it requires a decent chunk of cash to fix eg £500, you scrap it and buy another.
I can't remember where I read it but someone once said that £4-5k budget is a strange place because cars start to have problems and can cost a couple of £k to fix but they're not so cheap that you'd just scrap them... and they're not so expensive that they're reliable. I suppose this does depend on the car. Maybe a £2k car with a maintenance budget of £2k might work?

normally maximum of 2k is what I call bangernomic, but as you know used car prices are up significantly since covid..also I need an automatic and I don’t think you could ever buy an auto under 1k anyway.I can't remember where I read it but someone once said that £4-5k budget is a strange place because cars start to have problems and can cost a couple of £k to fix but they're not so cheap that you'd just scrap them... and they're not so expensive that they're reliable. as for the necessary repair cost and cars starting to have problems,I don’t think it’s always the case.
used car very much depends on luck.
I know 2 people who always buy old used cars from auctions use them few years then sell them, they don’t necessarily need expensive repairs and don’t necessarily fail at certain age.

It seems impossible to find anything like that under £2k at the moment.
so in my case,it’s going to be £2k-£3.5k range
